Relocation & Flavia B.

     August 19, 2011 marked the last day of local California work. Makeup by Sara Colello will be relocating to Phoenix, Arizona and its surrounding areas. So what better way than to end it on a photoshoot with a beautiful model from Romania, Flavia. It was a beautiful evening in a part of Irvine I have never encountered before, and I am thankful. My sister joined me to get a taste of what my work is like; when we entered the studio it was beautiful. A room of wardrobe, an area for makeup, and the lights on the backdrop set the tone for the shoot. Flavia arrived and was ready to go; it was a light hearted shoot with lots of laughs exchanged behind the scenes. It was a great pleasure working with her and the photographer, Kin Vong; a perfect way to spend my last local Cali shoot.

   

Laguna Photo Shoot

       It was a beautiful, slightly chilly afternoon down by the beach. The rocky steps led down to a large, weathered tree which had obviously been visited many times by the looks of the marks on it's trunk. Leaves littered the ground providing the feel of autumn in the middle of the summer. Further down the rocky steps there let out a beautiful view of the ocean in the distance, while bushes, plants, and "weeds" grew wild - a perfect scene for an outdoor shoot. Walk down the pathway to the left, and you find a house in the background and some more trees, some brush, and a wrought iron gate. Follow the path down and you hit the beach just as the sun starts to set - painting the sky and leaving for a gorgeous photo opportunity.
      The photoshoot was last minute; I received a message around 2:30PM and was getting the models ready around 3:00PM for a 5:00PM shoot. I was blessed to have received some great lessons through this experience and I look forward to more opportunities to apply these lessons in the future. I also have a new found respect for photographers, their art, dedication, and passion.

Product Review: Unite Eurotherapy Seven Seconds Dry Shampoo

My husband is a hairstylist, so naturally we have a bunch of great (and some not-so-great) hair product at our home, so I decided to take it upon myself to review one of them. Let's just say presently I'm in love.

Normally, I wash my hair every other day (if I remember to not wash it that is) honestly, I don't remember why - something about when you wash your hair frequently your body starts over producing oil...or something like that. I'll get the hairstylist answer when Anthony gets home. Now that it (my hair) is presently red, each time I get my hair wet a little bit of the color comes out - causing it to fade faster than I would like (granted, I would like it to just not fade or grow out -but apparently this is the real world and that doesn't happen here.)- my hair is very porous after the process of making it blonde. Due to the fact that I can't wet my hair as frequently at the moment, my husband brought home this hot little number. Like I said before, I'm in love.

Besides the fact that the entire Unite Eurotherapy product line smells yummy, unlike every other product line I've tried (I won't name names), this product is just fabulous! Just a few sprays and my hair is back to looking fresh! One thing of note: You actually have to spray it on your roots, unlike other hair products. Probably not rocket science for most, but it took me a couple days to figure that one out - and I only really figured it out because my hubby caught me attempting to use it unsuccessfully. Anyways, the Unite Eurotherapy website is right on with it's product statements. I personally tested each statement:

1.The company states that it "Aids in preserving hair color". Definitely true! Red is a very difficult color to keep. The first go around, I did not use this product and let me tell you, my hair faded to a nice 5th Element orange rather quickly (It was about 5 days). The second go around, I believe we're at 2 or 3 weeks of color and it's still red, lighter, but still red. It has faded since I do still wet my hair and wash it with real shampoo, but because I am doing it less frequently it's maintaining quite nicely.
2. "Removes excess oil" - Again, definitely true! I cannot stand the look or feel of oily hair (YUCK!), and it tends to get rather oily, especially since I'm trying to cut back on the frequency I shampoo it in the shower. This product removes the oil, making my hair look like it was just washed- nice and fresh and clean!
3. "Increases Volume" - My hair is naturally pretty flat, I have to work at it to get volume and usually, the day after washing it doesn't want to do anything that even slightly resembles volume - even with working it. After using this product, it gives it more volume so my hair doesn't appear to be flat against my head.
4. "No visible powder" - Now, I personally have not used any other dry shampoo besides this one, but I have been informed by my girlfriends who have asked me about this product if it leaves a powdery residue like other dry shampoos they have tried (this tends to be the main reason they are weary of giving it a shot). It doesn't! Another great selling point, if you ask me.

5. "Refreshes hair without the use of water" - Yes, yes, yes! I know I have already touched on this, but it is so true. My hair is definitely looking refreshed and clean after using this product. And the best part is,,,,
6. "You'll never be late for Happy Hour again!" - Ok, this one I have not personally tested. I don't believe I have ever been to a happy hour, BUT -You won't be late for work, church events, appointments because of your hair needing a wash before going out. (Granted, there are a number of other ways you can make up for that - I struggle with that).
With this product you spray it on your roots, lightly dust it with your hand and viola! Pretty, fresh, ready to go hair in, you guessed it, 7 seconds!

So there you have it, there's my review on my new favorite hair product!

Product Review: TooFaced Eye Shadow Insurance

Hello lovelies! I'm going to try and keep up PRW again - even though we're in the midst of an out of state move, I anticipate having more free time and some of you have been asking for it to come back - so here it is and I'll try to be better at maintaining it. :)

As a make up artist, I want my clients' make up to last throughout the entire day; not necessarily for only a few hours and in the past I noticed that my eyeshadow not only appeared a different color when I applied it to my own lids, but that it also wouldn't last the entire day - not something I wanted to run into with my clients. I recieved "Shadow Insurance" by Too Faced as a gift from Sephora and I absolutely love it! I usually apply it with either a clean finger or a clean small shadow brush - sometimes it appears stripey from the brush - but if you practice you'll find a technique that works for you that will get it applied evenly with a brush. (The faster, easier way is to use your finger though-ring or pinky work best). Shadow Insurance comes out in a beige color which helps the shadows true color pigmentation come out without the yellow or pink tones of your skin coming through. When using this product, make sure that you allow it time to dry a but before applying eyeshadow - the eyeshadow will not blend well if it's applied while the Shadow Insurance is still rather wet and it can also appear uneven/a little clumpy so give it a few seconds to set to avoid that and you'll get a truer color as well as lasting. It is FANTASTIC and helping your shadow last all day without it falling or getting lighter!

This is one product that I consider a MUST HAVE for my kit; it really does make a difference!! 

Bride: Amber

     I was blessed with the opportunity to be a part of Amber's wedding on July 2nd. It was a fairytale. As I drove up the Ortegas, I knew that this was going to be a special day. I arrived at a beautiful home to help assist the bride, who happens to be just as beautiful. As I walked in, the horses were being groomed and prepared for the ceremony and I had the priviledge of seeing all of her little personal touches for her wedding. Amber herself was very calm adn collected; she was definitely ready for this day. I was only able to snap a few shots before the wedding, and she graciously invited me to stay for the ceremony. She rode up in a old Ford truck and when the "I do's" were said, Amber and Nick road away on horseback. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen at wedding.
